Newsletter for August 2010 from Region 7
Even though I do not have very much to write about what I do have to tell you all is very important. First of all if you have not heard Charlie’s Pub has closed so we will be looking for another place to have our meetings. If anyone has any ideas let Butch know. Try to come up with a place that is centrally located. We will still have our meetings at Shady Shores until we find a place. We have till our October meeting to find a place. Evergreen attendance was down this year due to the rain and whatnot, but we were still able to give ABATE at the field meet $15,000. That still is pretty darn good! Marion Spencer is recovering from her surgery and is doing okay. Remember her in your prayers so we get to see her real soon. Now, for some bad news. We lost one of our very dear members. Dave Raymond was hit by a deer and did not make it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be greatly missed. Also, Steve Lynn was hit by a deer and he is in St. Mary’s. He is doing okay. We hope he gets better real soon. Biker of the Month is Al Schmidt. Al and Marion were supposed to be our Grand Marshalls for Evergreen but they did not make it. So here’s to Al and all his support, commitment and dedication to ABATE. Birthdays for August are: Julie Cannell, Marvin Howell, Tim Sova, Richard Wallace, and Tracey Zajac. Anniversaries for August: Jan and Dan Brown, Brad and Bonnie Firmingham, Dave and Kathy Muz, Nick and Mona Stoick and Cheryl and Roger Woodruff. Our best goes out to all of you. Don’t forget to put the Harley Drags on your calendar and hope to see you there. July 2010 Newsletter for Region 7
Here it is July already and would you believe Evergreen has come and gone! It was quite a wet weekend and the crowd was not as big as in the past but despite the rain everyone seemed to have a great time. First and most important a big thank you goes to all who participated in the weekend. Your support of Region 7’s events is greatly appreciated. Next, a big thank you goes to all the volunteers. The event could not happen without your help. Remember, all our proceeds from this event goes to ABATE and to Evergreen Park. I would like to take this time to announce the winners of our activities. Friday’s Burn out winner was Dennis Peddler and Saturday’s was Eldon Pierson. Thank you to Russ and Jena who were our judges. The winners of the Bike games were as follows: Weenie Bite, Maureen and Wes, Slow Race, Marshel, Bike Bowling, Bruce and Mindy, Road Kill, Kristen and Kurt, Trike Road Kill, Jody and Shawny and Plank Race, Carl, Mexican, Danny and Kyle. Congratulations to all and we hope you had as much fun as we had watching you. Also, thanks to Brandy, Doe, Jim and CJ for helping with the games. As for the Horseshoe Tournament, for the 3rd year in a row, Region 18’s Mexican and Carl won. Congratulations, guys. The Bike Show winners are as follows: People’s Choice, Blue, Open, Blue, Shovelhead, Robert Mayer, Foreign, Jeff English, Twin Cam, Russ Knowles, Antique, Sheik, Evolution, Roger Bugg, Rat, Dennis Grimshaw, Softail, Ryan Osentoski, Trike, Bill and Mary Jo Bouchaert, Sportster, Bob Austin, Special Interest, Shawn Coltson, Dresser/Touring, Tom France, and Judge’s Choice, Robert Mayer. Congratulations to the winners. Now, on to some business. The last Saturday of each month at Bad Axe High School motorcycle classes will be offered. If interested, talk to Jim or Al. Thursday nights The Outfield in Kingston will be having Bike Nights so if you are in the area, stop by. We would like to keep some very special people in our prayers. Senator Barcia’s wife who is fighting cancer, our own little sweet Miriam who had a tumor removed at the end of May, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy who has always stored our Evergreen stuff during the year in their barn, are having some hard times right now, Marlene, who lost her mother and Butch who had to take a trip to the hospital and scared the heck out of us all. Remember them and think well of them. Our biker of the month is Cindy. Thanks Cindy for donating food for the cook out after Evergreen clean up on Sunday. Pat Sheridan is running for county road commission. If you live in Tuscola County he would greatly appreciate your support. This month’s name drawing for a free membership was Monic Wingett but since she was not at the meeting she did not win. For July and August, the meeting will be at Shady Shores and a name will be drawn both months. But remember, you have to attend the meeting to win. The “Watermelon Crawl” was awarded at this meeting. For those of you who do not know about this, twice a year one man and one woman is chosen to receive this prestigious award for something outstanding they accomplished during the preceding 6 month period. So I am pleased to announce the winners: For the men, Jack Edwards, who now can add to his list of achievements, drank two bottles of tequila along with the worms and then went looking for more worms along the river bank. This award, “I eat worms” will sit proudly on his shelf for months to come. Now for the women, Cindy Priemer was quite ingenious when she could not get her rubber boots off, declared that if she just stuck her feet in the campfire eventually they would melt off. Along with having a little bit of a problem walking, her award “These boots were made for walkin” amply applies. What more can I say? Congratulations, it’s all in fun! Do you or anyone you know of have any or all of the t-shirts from the past 17 years of Evergreen? If so, we would like to make a quilt out of them to be raffled off. So if you would like to help out with this endeavor, let Barb know. The following are birthdays for June: Brian Bezemek, Don Byrnes, Ron Byrnes, Tom Cannell, Helen Eisinger, Lori Hoig, Frank Hughes, Steve Jerore, Jim Krause, Ira Pyrek, Shelby Roby and Keith Smukala. Anniversaries for June are Jim and Nancy Davenport, Fran and Ken Gainsforth, Erin and Steve Jerore, Dawn and Drano Urick and Craig and Dolores Zajac. Wish all of these members well. Newsletter for May 2010 If you did not make it to April’s meeting you missed a really nice 20th Birthday Bash. We want to say thank you to all who brought food to pass. We had enough to feed an army. And the drinks were great too. Did you know that Region 7 started in 1990, that we are the 3rd largest in Michigan and we have donated over $500,000 to ABATE over the 20 years? That is really something to be proud of. Evergreen is getting closer and the plans are just about finalized. Our May meeting will be at the park on May 2nd at 3:00. By the way, we will not have a meeting at Charlie’s until the October meeting. Tom will be signing up members to help with security and Barb will be looking for helpers to work the admission table. Please do your part as a member and help out. We need everyone to make this year a success. We also hope to see lots of members from all over the state. You can’t beat Evergreen for a great time. We did not do as well as we hoped at the Bull Riding Competition with Region 6 but everyone still had a great time. We would like to thank Shelby, Dennis, Jacob and Tim for riding for us. Thanks to all who came out to support us. I heard the bus ride was quite a trip. MRF Fun Night was also successful with the highest amount ever raised for MRF. And with that said Cindy and Frank are the Bikers of the Month. What can be said about these two wonderful people who are always there to do what they can to make any event we have great? Thank you Cindy and Frank for you dedication to Region 7. Jeff Mays was our guest speaker at the April meeting. He is running for Jim Barcia’s seat. Remember, register to vote and then make sure you vote! Jeff had a nice surprise for us and presented Region 7 with plaque that is a special tribute for our 20 years signed by himself, Terry Brown, Jim Barcia and John Espinoza. Thank you Jeff and good luck in your race. Awareness classes are off to a good start this year with 5 classes taught and 3 more scheduled. Good job Marlene and Karen and do not forget to save can tabs for Marlene. Put May 15th on your calendar for the RIP Run. The money earned will go to buy trees to be planted at Evergreen Park with plaques in remembrance of our deceased members. Darcy Davies name was drawn at the April meeting for a free membership but since she was not present she did not win. We want to see everyone attending meetings and getting involved in the events so this is just one way that we hope that every chance you get you come around. We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Barb Brown, Ken Decker, Brad Firmingham, Jim Gillis, Sam Lafave, Dave Raymond, Diana Rich, Al Schmidt, Carol Stieler, Nick Stoick, Parcus Sutherland, Joe Tucker, Dawn Urick and Shelly Wiederhold. Anniversaries are Betty and Jim Comment, Dan and Stacy Curtis, Carol and Tom Palmer, and Debbie and Parcus Sutherland. Congratulations to all. Just a note….Tom thought he should get Biker of the Month for being married for 26 years to Carol but I have a feeling Carol thinks differently! Just kidding you two. Celebrate with much love because we love you. Enjoy the nice weather and see you all at the May meeting.
Newsletter for April 2010 Spring is almost here and along with the nicer weather comes lots of activities and runs. Make sure that if you do not want to miss out on all the fun you come to meetings, read the Rider, check out our website and the state’s website. First, I must tell you about a few housekeeping items. If you want to be in the mileage contest, give your mileage to Butch ASAP. Next, Karen is getting ready to put up awareness banners and is especially looking for spots along M-25. So if you know of anyone who owns property along that stretch, contact Karen or Marlene. If you want to be a prescient delegate, let Butch know, he has the applications for that. If you want anything on our website let Julie know or on the website go to CONTACT US. Barb has Field meet tickets if you are planning on going and do not forget to help sell raffle tickets for the state. If any of our members are sick or in the hospital, let Butch know so we can send a card to knowledge that we are thinking about them. And last, if you want to take a motorcycle endorsement class see Butch or Jim. Okay, now for the rest of the things you need to know about. Some dates to add to your calendar are April 14th for Trash pickup. It will start at 6:00pm at Evergreen Park with a cook out to follow. On May 15th we are having a RIP Ride in memory of all our deceased members. It will start at 11:00am at Gillis’ and end at Farmer’s Tavern in Ruth. We are starting a member incentive program. All members’ names will go in a jar. At our monthly meeting at Charlie’s one name will be drawn. If that member is present he or she will win a one year membership to ABATE. If you are a couple and both of you are present you both will win. This month Terry and Lisa Frank’s name was drawn but they were not present, so I am sorry to say they did not win the free membership. Hopefully we will have a winner next month. We will do this each month so everyone has 12 chances to win. When we do not have a meeting at Charlie’s than a name will be drawn at the Shady Shores meeting. We want to see everyone at our meetings and events and this is just one little way to say thanks for caring. The March 2nd Pizza and Pop in Lansing had a good turnout and Butch has set up for Jeff Mays to visit at our April meeting, Terry Brown at our May meeting, Jim Barcia will be at the Salute to the Vets at Evergreen and John Espinoza will ride with us in Thunder Across the Thumb. Here is an opportunity to talk to the candidates. We have a new member. Say hello to Alicia Manville. 50/50 winner was Jim Shemp and we voted to give ABATE’s share to John Dewey who is having health problems. Hopefully it will help him out. Biker of the Month is Danny Brown. He was one of the crazy ones who actually jumped into the cold water at the Daytona Run to Tom and Julie’s. But Danny is more than just a little crazy, he is one of our most dedicated members and no one works as hard as he does at Evergreen to get things set up and run the events. Thanks Danny for all you do for Region 7. Birthdays for March are Leroy Albrecht, Jan Brown, Jim Comment, Wayne McMann, Darrel Peruski, Mike Sopha, Dave Stieler, Tom Warren, Dolores Zajac, Melvin Sharbowski, Tim Stutterheim and Pat Sheridan. Debbie and Leroy Albrecht are celebrating their anniversary this month also. So congratulations to all. See you all soon and ride safely.
March 2010 Newsletter for Region 7 Even though it is only March plans for Evergreen are well underway. We will need lots of help from our members if we want to make this year another success. Please sign up to help, whether it is security, setup, admission table, games, bike show, or cleanup we need help every day all day. Besides, it’s fun to meet and talk to all the people who support our event. When you receive your raffle ticket from the state for the bike raffle it is very important that you support this fundraiser. Our region also has tickets to sell. Remember, we are a politically active organization and can only do the job we need to do with our members support. Remember also, to register to vote and to vote in the August primary. From our Awareness ladies, Karen and Marlene, we have a big thank you to all who participated and helped with the State Seminar Hospitality for our Region. Newsletter for February 2010
Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone and I hope you were able to attend the Seminar in January. Since I am writing this newsletter before the seminar actually happens, I will have to tell you all about it in the March newsletter. We had our first Evergreen meeting on Jan. 3rd before our general meeting. Plans are underway and updates are in the minutes each month. Every month till the event everyone is invited to attend the planning meetings at 3:00 and volunteer to be on a committee. We can only pull off this major fundraiser with everyone’s help. Pat is forming committees not just for Evergreen but for the whole year and your input is greatly needed. If you do not know what to volunteer for or have any suggestions for committees or ideas, feel free to call Pat at 989-673-2984 or email him at hdfarm1@hotmail.com. You won’t know what is going on if you do not attend a meeting, read the newsletter, and check out the state website or our website. So keep informed and join in the fun. Volunteering IS fun and you get to meet a lot of really nice people. We need everyone to be a part of Region 7. You are all valuable and are greatly appreciated. At our meeting Cindy Priemer was presented with a plaque for all her hard work and dedication to our Region. You can always count on Cindy to be there when you need her. Whether it is with her time or donations Cindy is a true member with a big heart. We appreciate all she does and wanted to say thank you. A calendar of events was passed out and if you did not receive one I will have more copies at the next meeting. Also, it will be posted on our website and on the state website. Just a few reminders here, Triathlon on Feb. 13th at Shady Shores, Bull Riding Competition with Region 6 on Mar. 20th, the MRF Fun Night and Spaghetti Dinner at Farmer’s Tavern in Ruth and Our Birthday Bash on April 3rd. So mark your calendars and come join the fun. The Charity Committee consisting of Marv, Pat, Barb and Ruth dispersed money to help 7 families for Christmas, 2 cancer victims, 2 children who lost their mother and home to a fire, The Homeless Boys and Red Cloud Indians. This committee will meet when the need arises to decide how to use the money we have set aside for charities. So if you know of someone in need, let one of the members know about it and we still are looking for names of the troop packages. Birthdays for January are Brian Donaghy, Dave Donaghy, Bonnie Firmingham, Lisa Frank, Kevin Janrdeau, Gary Lewis, Tom Palmer (even though he said he was not having any more birthdays), Donna Pyrek, and Dale Gordon. So Happy Birthday to all including you, Tom! There are no anniversaries that I am aware of for January. Please let me know if I missed anyone. John McClelland won the 50/50 and donated $100 back to the family who lost their house to a fire in Tuscola County. Thank you John for your generosity. Also, John was named Member of the Year for Hog Town. Congratulations to you, we know you are a very dedicated member of Hog Town. They like us are lucky to have you as a member. Our Biker of the Month is Marv Howell. Marv is chairing our Charity Committee and all his work with Aaron’s Run we are proud to have you as a member. So that is about it for now. Hope to see you at the upcoming events and at our February 7th meeting at 3:00 at Charlie’s.
