What is A.B.A.T.E.?

ABATE (American Bikers Aimining Towards Education)of Michigan Inc., is a nonprifit, grass-roots organixation dedicated to preservfing the rights and promotin the safe operating practices of Michigan motorcyclists.

ABATE if Michigan is a freedom of choice organization; believing that the rider is best able to decide the type of motorcycle to ride and the type and extent of safety gear to be worn.We believe that adylt riders should have the freedom to choose whether or not to use helmets as part of a comprehensive motorcycle safety program.

ABATE of Michigan is comprised of  motorcyclist, from all walks of life, coming together to work for realistic legislation; to insure safety and freedom of our public roads; to promote motorcycle awareness to the general public; to promote motorcycling in general; and to insure that motorcycles are here to stay as an alternate mode of transportation.

ABATEof Michigan inables you to become educated both politically and in safe riding practices.  Through public forums, writing letters. and meeting elected officials, ABATE of Michigan members have the opportunity to speak their side of the issues and educate others on the needs of Michigan motorcyckusts.

ABATE of Michigan is open to everyone 18 years of age or older having an interest in motorcycling and sharing our goals. owning a motorcycle is not necessary.

 What if your Government proposed to :

-Limit horsepower to LESS thank 30HP?

-Limit displacement to LESS than 1000cc's?

-Limit the PUBLIC areas where you could ride?

-Limit the HOURS that you could ride?

-ELIMINATE modified motorcycles?

-Mandate a "lights-on"law for motorcycles?

-Mandate the wearing of REFLECTORIZED vest?

-Mandate "crash Bars" for motorcycles?

-BAN MOTORCYCLES?

Some of these items have been proposed in Michigan and have been stopped by ABATE. All of these have been proposed somewhere in the United States.

A.B.A.T.E.S Goals are;

*To publis the Michigan Rider news letter to keep motorcyclists informed on upcoming and pending legislation pertaining to motorcycles and riders, and motorcycles related functions (party's, rides,etc.) in Michigan and around the country.

*To motivate bikers and inform them in how to communicate with their legislators and get them involved in the legislative process.

*To promote safety and education ALONG with promoting MOTORCYCLING.

*To become a powerful and viable olitical force in legislative maters concerning the mototcycle rider.

What has A.B.A.T.E. of Michigan done?

**A.B.A.T.E. members have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars and collected food, clothing & toys for local communitis and various charties.

**A.B.A.T.E. stopped legislation that would have outlawed STOCK Harley-Davidson Super Glides along with most modified motorcycles.

**A.B.A.T.E. stopped proposals to require that all motorcycles ride with lights on at all times.

**A.B.A.T.E. restored funding for motorcycle safety after it was eliminated from the 2004 budget.

**A.B.A.T.E. supported and was instrumental in enactin legislation for new rider education.

**A.B.A.T.E. initiated and was instrumental in passing legislation removing "points" against your driving record for helmet law violations.

**A.B.A.T.E. stopped proposals to ban your children from riding with you.

**A.B.A.T.E. has proposed and helped inact funding for rider education programs throughout the state.

**A.B.A.T.E. was successful in passing legislation that regulates motorcycle seizures by police agencies.

**A.B.A.T.E. initiated the Ride Straight alcohol awareness proghram and a Licensing Awareness program,

**A.B.A.T.E. volunteers, through its" Motorcycle Awareness program, have taught over 44,000 new car drivers about motorcycles & to share the road.

** A.B.A.T.E. repealed nightime motorcycle bans in Oak Park and Ferndale Mi. in 2007.
